Replacement of the Côte-Vertu station waterproofing membrane

Between now and November 2019, the waterproofing membrane that covers the pedestrian passageway at Côte-Vertu station will be completely refurbished. This major project will result in the partial closure of De La Côte-Vertu Boulevard between Gohier and Décarie Streets over very specific phases.

Since excavation will be required, there will be obstructions to car and pedestrian traffic from April 23 until November 2019.

In addition to replacing the waterproofing membrane, we will take advantage of the surface reconstruction to build the traffic lanes for the future bus rapid transit (BRT) service that will connect the Sauvé and Côte-Vertu stations. This will avoid another road closure when the BRT service gets underway in fall 2020.

Access to the métro station and neighbouring businesses will be maintained at all times.

Several bus stops will be moved during the work.

The following lines will be diverted starting on April 23 for the duration of the work, that is, until November 2019:

To avoid the worksite, we recommend that you use the underground pedestrian passageway and exit via the Édouard-Laurin entrance building to get to these bus stops.

The worksite

It is a device that protects the station from water infiltrations. The membrane covers the station’s underground roof and is located underground. Côte-Vertu station’s waterproofing membrane dates back to the station’s initial construction in 1986 and has reached the end of its useful life.

Replacing a waterproofing membrane requires excavating the ground above it to a depth of several metres. The station spans the entire width of the boulevard, which will have to be excavated along its entire width. However, the work will be carried out in several phases to maintain the flow of traffic on De La Côte-Vertu Boulevard.

Deployment of resources at the worksite and demolition of the central median on De La Côte-Vertu Boulevard between Gohier and Décarie Streets. Two traffic lanes will remain open in each direction.

This major phase, which will last approximately nine weeks, consists in excavating the southern half of De La Côte-Vertu Boulevard to replace the membrane.

piéton During this phase, Côte-Vertu station’s south entrance building will be closed, along with a portion of the sidewalk in front of it. The station will be accessible at all times via the main entrance building located north of De La Côte-Vertu Boulevard or the entrance building located on Édouard-Laurin Street.

car One eastbound lane and two westbound lanes will remain open to traffic on the northern section of De La Côte-Vertu Boulevard.

Work will move to the northern section of De La Côte-Vertu Boulevard as of July and will last approximately 16 weeks. The excavation will encroach on part of the sidewalk and the bus loop at the northern entrance building.

pieton A safe pedestrian passageway will be set up along the worksite to allow access to the station’s northern entrance building. Access to the western façade of the main entrance building will be blocked during this phase. Côte-Vertu station’s other accesses will remain open.

car One westbound lane and two eastbound lanes will remain open to traffic on the southern section of De La Côte-Vertu Boulevard.

The bus loop at Côte-Vertu station will be partially excavated as of mid-July. Other bus stops will be moved during this phase. Details will be announced at a later date.

During the first weeks, some buses may run behind schedule. Our bus drivers and bus network operations managers will do everything they can to limit the impact on your trips.

Métro service will not be affected, and the métro will continue to run at the same frequency and at the same times.

Since the upcoming work mainly involves the refurbishing of the waterproofing membrane and will be done outside, there will be very few obstructions inside the station.

Traffic in both directions will be maintained at all times. However, some lanes will be eliminated depending on the work phase. Consult the different work phases for complete details.
