Metro mobile network: half of all stations will soon be connected

The STM, in partnership with Bell, Rogers, TELUS and Videotron, is pleased to announce that the Du Collège and Côte-Vertu metro stations on the Orange line and the Côte-des-Neiges station on the Blue line are now connected to the mobile network, which uses state-of-the-art technology, notably 4G and 4G LTE.

As of November 21, as part of mitigation measures related to major road works, the Société de transport de Montréal will introduce a shuttle bus service running from the Agence métropolitaine de transport’s new park-and-ride lot (300 spots) at the junction of autoroutes 40 and 15 (corner of Sainte-Croix and Dion) to the du Collège métro station on the Orange line.

An important milestone was reached, as part of the City Mobility demonstration project, with the installation of a first pantograph at Angrignon terminus. This very first quick-charging station will soon be ready to start working, with a second station planned near Square Victoria, in the city’s Quartier international.

The STM tables its Capital spending plan for 2017-2026

Today, the Société de transport de Montréal (STM) tabled its capital spending plan (PI). Covering a 10-year period, the plan contains 49 authorized projects, 18 of them representing 92% of services, for a total amount in excess of $3.6 B.  Several of these projects will go directly toward improving the transit experience for customers.

As part of the métro’s 50th anniversary, Orchestre symphonique de Montréal is joining the STM by working on the creation of two original works inspired by the métro. In fact, these new musical works will be performed for the first time at concerts held October 20, 22 and 23 at the Maison symphonique.

The arrival of new AZUR métro cars means the gradual removal of MR-63 trains from service, and we wanted to give them a chance at a second life. Issued last March 15, our call for proposals ended June 1. In all, we received some thirty project proposals from design and architecture firms, schools (public institutions), business entrepreneurs, various other organizations and individual citizens.

The list of honours and awards garnered by the STM’s Stinson bus garage keeps on growing. Today, this exceptional sustainability project was rewarded with a Corporate Leadership award in the Environment category by the Canadian Urban Transit Association (CUTA). STM’s chief executive officer, Luc Tremblay, accepted the award on behalf of the company at a gala ceremony as part of CUTA annual conference in Halifax.

On this April 22, it is worth keeping in mind that every small action does make a difference for our planet. For this reason, the STM in association with Jour de la Terre Québec and CAA-Québec will hand out OPUS cards loaded with 10 single tickets to some 2,500 Montréal motorists, so that they may give public transit a try and give more thought to their mobility.

For a second straight year, Corporate Knights, a magazine focused on sustainability, has included STM among a select group of mid-size Canadian corporations that stand out for their exemplary responsible practices. STM ranks seventh in Canada and second in Québec, in a list made public this morning. STM also ranks second overall in the transportation industry in Canada.

Dans un rapport publié le 24 mars dernier, la Commission des droits de la personne et de la jeunesse du Québec (CDPJQ) salue les efforts de la STM pour assurer une meilleure représentativité de la diversité au sein de ses effectifs. Selon le président de la Commission, Jacques Frémont, « la STM est un modèle remarquable qui a fait ses preuves parce qu’au fil des ans, la direction s’est investie et a fait des programmes d’accès à l’égalité en emploi une priorité ».

Nous investiguons déjà les circonstances depuis quelques jours et nous collaborons pleinement avec le SPVM qui mène l’enquête.

For the past few days now, Montréal transit users can view the STM’s new ad campaign in buses and in the métro. With a series of visuals illustrating the « Everyone could use a seat » theme, the STM is promoting courtesy among its customers and urges the public to pay more attention to other passengers who, for one reason or another, could be in need of a seat. Through this action, the STM is hoping to make transit use more appealing and safe for everyone. That aspect of the relationship between transit users has in fact been the subject of a number of recurring comments and complaints.
