Post-lockdown measure: STM installs hand sanitizer dispensers in métro network

News

In preparation for a gradual recovery of economic activities, the Société de transport de Montréal (STM) is collaborating with the City of Montréal to install 224 hand sanitizer dispensers for riders at métro station entrances.

The touchless dispensers will be installed in all 126 entrance buildings and 50 public access points. They will remain available for at least three months. The first 125 dispensers will be installed by May 1st, with the remaining to be installed by mid-May.

STM teams will ensure daily cleaning and refill the dispensers. Based on the STM’s assessment, the dispensers will be refilled approximately every four days.

The STM wishes to remind the public that this is an additional preventive measure that does not replace existing public health rules, including physical distancing, coughing into the elbow and frequent hand washing. Riders are also advised not to use public transportation if they think they may have COVID-19.

As announced last week, the STM is meeting with its partners in business and public health to define the measures it will take to better prepare for customers sharing space on its bus, métro and paratransit networks in the post-lockdown period.
