Press release

As of March First,
STCUM Tickets Will be Available by the Dozen!

Montréal, February 20, 1997 - As of March 1, 1997, the STCUM is eliminating the six-ticket strip and replacing it with the 12-ticket book. Offering a more practical format to the 75% of users that already purchase 12 or more tickets each month, it also maintains the 28% reduction by selling the book at the same price as the strip x 2, i.e. $16 for the regular rate tickets and $8 for the reduced rate tickets.

This decision is among all the others that the STCUM has made in order to balance its 1997 budget. Rather than increase the price of tickets by $0.25, it has opted for introducing the book of tickets which will generate additional revenues of $1.5 million, since some customers will then prefer the cash-payment option. This measure has already been adopted by most public transit companies around the world who sell ten or more tickets at a time.

Lastly, it should be noted that while stocks last, some ticket booth collectors and vending outlets might continue to sell strips of 6 tickets during the first few days of March.
