Papineau métro station open again on weekends

Montreal, 10 March 2006- The Société de transport de Montréal wishes to inform transit users that Papineau métro station is now open again on weekends. Indeed, the construction work that required the station’s closing from 10 pm Friday to 5:30 am Monday took less time than anticipated, allowing the station to reopen this weekend instead of March 19.

However, construction is not all finished, and passengers must still use the temporary entrance on Cartier Street, on the west side of the station. The fare control booth and turnstiles are still located on the station’s lower level.

The purpose of these renovations is to allow for the construction of rooms to house telemetry, radio communications, telephony and public address equipment, surveillance cameras, in addition to other network systems that will improve services for transit users, as well as their comfort and security.

The STM wishes to thank transit users for their cooperation and understanding while Papineau station was closed during these past weekends.
