Salon national de l'environnement
The STM goes green

Montreal, June 8, 2007 - Wishing to make known its commitment to sustainable development and promote environmental protection, particularly among the Montréal population, the STM is « going green » at the Salon de l’environnement on June 8, 9 and 10, 2007, held at Place des Vestiges at the Quays of the Old Port of Montréal.

« I strongly believe that by integrating the principles of sustainable development into our way of thinking, into our strategies and into our management methods, we ensure that we are able to respond adequately to the new challenges faced by the Montréal region in this area», declared the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the STM, Claude Trudel.

« The STM is thus seizing the opportunity with its presence at the Salon to promote not only its future transportation projects but also its concrete actions in the area of environmental protection », added Mr. Trudel.

Conferences offered by the STM

The STM will offer visitors to the Salon conferences under the theme of working towards a responsible and socially equitable environmental approach to consumption.

For instance, on Saturday, June 9, three speakers will cover themes such as Le dveloppement durable la STM (sustainable development at the STM) and La conduite colo (« green » driving). On Sunday, June 10, two speakers will deal with the arrival of the biodiesel-electric hybrid propulsion buses.

The STM will also be represented at the roundtable on biodiesel taking place on Saturday, June 9.

Planned tour

Visitors will begin their journey aboard the Biobus where an animator from the STM will talk to them about the biodiesel project. Afterwards, visitors will be invited to stop by each of the STM’s mini-stands set up in the transportation theme area.

Various objects recycled from bus tires will be displayed as well as a device that measures the opacity of gas exhaust from the buses and an anti-spill nozzle. Visitors will also be to discover the three stages in the life of a bus tire.

In addition, this planned tour will provide visitors with the opportunity to learn about the STM’s future projects for the métro.

Draw for twelve monthly CAMs

During the three days of the Salon de l’environnement, visitors will be able to participate in a search for clues placed on each of the minis-stands, making them eligible for a draw for a monthly CAM (4 draws per day).

The STM hopes to welcome a great number of you at the Salon de l’environnement on June 8, 9 and 10 ! Admission is free !
