in the borough of Lachine

Montreal, May 30, 2007 - In order to improve public transit service in the borough of Lachine, the Société de transport de Montréal (STM) is adding to the Norman public taxi service in the morning, afternoon and late evening.
The morning and afternoon service periods begin at 5:45 a.m. and 2:15 p.m. respectively, while a new evening schedule has been put into service from 9:00 p.m. to midnight. This new schedule has been in effect since May 28.

Provided by Taxi Diamond de l’ouest, the new owner of Taxi Lachine, the Norman public taxi is in service from 5:45 a.m. to 9:00 a.m., from 2:15 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. and from 9:00 p.m. to midnight. Public taxi users can get on or off at one of the following six stops: 14th Avenue and Autoroute 20; Provost and 24th Avenue; Provost and 10th Avenue; Provost and 1st Avenue as well as at the two junctions of Claire Crescent and Norman.

« This is the second addition to the public taxi service in the Lachine sector this year », explained Mr. Claude Trudel, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the STM. « Here is another good example of the ongoing efforts undertaken by the Société to optimize its service offer for its clientele ».

No set route has been established in advance; it depends on the reservations made by clients who must reserve their trips at least one hour in advance by calling
514 637-4444. Clients can also consult the STM’s Internet site (www.stm.info), which contains a wealth of useful information for planning their trips more efficiently. The fare for the service is the same as for the integrated métro and bus network and must be paid with valid STM tickets.

Keep in mind that the STM also provides public transit services by taxi between the Lachine industrial park and the Dorval train station, to L’Île-Bizard, to Senneville, in the Sainte-Marie district of Sainte-Anne-de-Bellevue, on Norman Street, in Lachine as well as between Place-Vertu and the Aldo distribution centre in Ville Saint-Laurent.
