Press release

From June 1 to August 16, 2009, inclusively:
major work necessitates the closure of the Charlevoix station

Montréal, May 27, 200
9 The Société de transport de Montréal (STM) wishes to inform its clients that it must temporarily close the Charlevoix station in order to carry out major work. There will therefore be no access to the Charlevoix station at any time from June 1 to August 16 inclusively.

Aware that this will involve a change in clients’ travel habits, the Société would like to reassure them that it has set up a shuttle bus service that will run at five- to eight-minute intervals during the hours the métro is open. The shuttle will travel between the Charlevoix, Lionel-Groulx and LaSalle stations in both directions throughout the construction period.

In addition, as it will not be possible for clients to purchase their usual transit fares at the Charlevoix station, the STM suggests that they purchase them in advance at another station.

The work carried out during this period will consist mainly of the upgrading of the building (including structural, architectural and electrical work and replacement of the floor), installation of warning strips on the steps of the stairs at the platform level and replacement of the station’s windows, lighting and fire protection system.

The Société has taken all the necessary measures to ensure the safety of its clients and has done everything within its power to minimize any possible inconvenience.

In closing, it should be mentioned that this work will be carried out under Phase II of the Réno-Stations program, which is financed through a partnership between Transports Québec and the STM.
