OPUS CARD:
Seniors 65 + and school children 6 to 11 can now get one

Montréal, March 27, 200
9 - Beginning July 1, 2009, only the registered photo ID OPUS card will entitle users to pay the reduced fare. As such, Société de transport de Montréal (STM) officials wish to inform their clients 65 and over, as well as school children 6 to 11 years old, that they can now get their own OPUS card.

How to obtain an opus card ?

OPUS cards are now available at SPEQ Photo located at 2020 University, McGill métro station. Moreover, the distribution of OPUS cards among seniors 65+ and school children 6 to 11 will be made easier, as the STM has arranged for photo delivery locations (PEP) to be held in April and May throughout Montréal island boroughs and municipalities.

Updated regularly, the list of these locations can be consulted at www.carteopus.info It will also be available on the STM page of Métro newspaper.

For seniors 65 +
For anyone who already has a Carte Or, no fees will be charged to exchange it for an OPUS card. Seniors who do not have one or who just turned 65 will be required to pay $13.50 for the new card ($10 for the photo and $3.50 for the OPUS card). In all cases, they must produce a valid ID card.

For school children 6 to 11 years old
For our younger clients, a request form available from their school, SPEQ Photo or from the www.carteopus.info website must be filled out and signed by either a parent or legal guardian. Parents should ensure their child has these documents on hand before going to the photo studio or photo delivery location, as well as $3.50 in exact change to cover the cost of the OPUS card.

More useful information
For seniors 65 and over, the OPUS card is valid for seven years, whereas for school children 6 to 11 years old, the card is valid for three years or until the child turns 12.

Because the OPUS card is registered, any remaining fares on a lost or stolen card will be credited to their owner. Should that happen, cardholders must go to SPEQ Photo at 2020 University St. as quickly as possible, where the old card will be cancelled, making it unusable by anyone.

A new card will be issued, recharged with the fare balance at the time the old card was declared lost or stolen. Valid ID will be required, as well as a card replacement fee of $13.50 for seniors 65+ and $3.50 for school children 6 to 11 years old.
