Earth Day: The STM invites clients to introduce
public transit to a friend for free next April 22

Montréal, April 13, 2010
For Earth Day, the STM is inviting clients holding a valid transit card to take advantage of an unprecedented promotion that allows them to offer a friend free access to the bus and métro networks for an entire day, next April 22.

« Earth Day is a terrific opportunity to promote public transportation among all Montrealers. The annual event not only makes it possible to raise popular awareness about the importance of biodiversity, but also to demonstrate that public transit is really a gesture for the environment. Allow me this opportunity to invite as many Montrealers as possible to come and use the bus and métro networks on April 22, » declared the Chairman of the STM Board of Directors, Michel Labrecque.

From April 19 to 22, between 6 a.m. and 9 a.m., a team from Astral Media will be handing out some 50 000 passes to transit users holding a valid fare in a dozen or so stations, including Berri-UQAM, McGill, Guy-Concordia, Bonaventure, Longueuil-Université-de-Sherbrooke, Côte-Vertu, Place-des-Arts, Vendôme, Honoré-Beaugrand, Lionel-Groulx and Montmorency. The passes will be distributed by representatives of Astral Media group, that includes several radio stations, namely Rock Détente, Radio NRJ, CHOM, Virgin Radio and CJAD. The stations will also broadcast short promos to encourage people to take part in Earth Day activities.

In addition, passes issued by the STM will be accepted by other transit corporations, including Société de transport de Laval (STL), Réseau de transport de Longueuil (RTL), Agence métropolitaine de transport (AMT) and CIT. Passes issued by them will also be accepted in the STM network.

Indeed, eleven public transit bodies in Québec have joined the Fonds Écomunicipalité IGA, the Association du transport urbain du Québec (ATUQ), Astral Média Radio and Quebecor Média to launch this promotional campaign throughout Québec, themed Amène un ami (Bring a friend).
