Rail shuttle linking Montréal-Trudeau Airport and downtown, the STM supports the Aéroports de Montréal project

Montréal, June 17, 2010
Société de transport de Montréal (STM) applauds the determination of Aéroports de Montréal (ADM) to establish, in the very near future, a rail shuttle linking Montréal-Trudeau Airport and downtown. ADM’s financing package, supported by the Québec government in its last budget, means the project can finally get on track.

According to Michel Labrecque, Chairman of the STM Board of Directors, “the two projects put forward by ADM and AMT are very interesting. The creation of a direct link, in an exclusive right-of-way setting and providing access to the city’s business centre, has been expected for a number of years now. This link is crucial to maintaining Montréal’s competitiveness as a preferred destination for international conventions and as a world-class tourist destination. It also represents an important asset for Montréal and West Island clients.”

“However, the STM feels that Central Station would provide a more relevant terminal for clients and travellers, as it allows a better integration of public transit networks and promotes multi-modal usage, these two objectives having been clearly identified in Ville de Montréal’s Transportation Plan. This project will give rail shuttle passengers a direct access to the métro’s Green and Orange lines, thanks to the underground pedestrian network. Moreover, the proximity of boulevard René-Lévesque, served by a dozen or so bus routes, also offers added value, as the heavily travelled thoroughfare leads to Montréal’s major hotels, numerous tourist attractions and the city’s major business centres. For all these reasons, the STM is publicly joining Ville de Montréal in its support of ADM’s project.”
