The elevator in the St-Denis entrance to Berri-UQAM station will be operational Friday, April 16

Montréal, April 14, 2010
The Société de transport de Montréal (STM) wishes to inform clients that the elevator located in the St-Denis entrance to Berri-UQAM station will be open to the public from the time the métro opens on the morning of Friday, April 16.

This completes the second phase of the elevator installation work at Berri-UQAM station, bringing the number of operational elevators in that station to three, making access to the Orange line, in either direction, easier for all public transit users.

This offer of service is part of the work undertaken in 2008 to equip five stations on the Orange line with elevators, namely Lionel-Groulx, Bonaventure, Berri-UQAM, Henri-Bourassa and Côte-Vertu. The elevators in Henri-Bourassa station will begin service next Monday, April 26, while those in Côte-Vertu station will become operational by the end of this year, bringing the number of accessible stations on the Orange line to eight.

Indeed, the ministère des Transports du Québec (MTQ) worked with the STM and representatives of the disabled community to determine which five stations would be the first to have elevators installed. As part of the Réno- Systèmes Programme, the work was made possible thanks to the MTQ who funded 75% of admissible expenditures.
