The STM announces evening service for the 173 – Métrobus Victoria

Press release

Montréal, August 31, 2011   The Société de transport de Montréal (STM) wishes to inform customers that the 173 – Métrobus Victoria will provide evening service until 10 p.m. starting next Tuesday, September 6.

“This new initiative clearly shows the STM is determined to upgrade service on express bus lines converging on métro stations, which translates into 2 800 more hours of service a year. It also stems from the success that followed previous service increases on that express route to Lionel-Groulx metro station,” declared Bernard Blanchet, STM board member and Lachine borough councillor. “Overall, with added evening service, the 173 will provide greater flexibility for anyone who wants to avoid using their car in the vicinity of the Turcot Interchange work site.”

“Extending the operating hours of the 173 bus line is in keeping with the borough’s vision for improving the quality of life of its citizens, as it will enable them to enjoy a wide range of evening activities held all over Montréal. Moreover, it will be easier for Lachine youngsters to get around, either for school or work, using public transit. As local government, we encourage all manner of environmentally-friendly transportation,” emphasized Lachine borough mayor, Claude Dauphin.

Financed equally by Transport Québec and the City of Montréal, these initiatives are part of the service improvement program aimed at increasing public transit ridership and giving Montrealers a more performance-driven transit network.

When planning their transit use, customers can call A-U-T-O-B-U-S (288-6287) for bus timetables at their stop. For everything else, they can call STM-INFO (786-4636). The STM website contains more useful transit information. The STM also provides cellphone users with a tool giving them access to information about transit service from their telephone (procedure outlined at www.stm.info/info/cell.htm
