The STM and Tangente - Laboratoire de mouvements contemporains present Fente-toi ! by choreographer Isabelle Boulanger

Press release

Montréal, September 6, 2012  –  The Société de transport de Montréal (STM) is pleased to present, in cooperation with Tangente – Laboratoire de mouvements contemporains, extracts from the dance show Fente-toi! by choreographer Isabelle Boulanger. As part of the STM MetroArts activity, this 7-dancer performance will take place on Thursday, September 6, 2012 from 4:30 p.m. to 5:15 p.m. at the Berri-UQAM métro station.

WHAT: Contemporary dance
DATE: Thursday, September 6
TIME: 4:30 p.m. to 5:15 p.m.
WHERE: Berri-UQAM métro station

THE SHOW
The show is an arrangement for seven players that is inspired by handball. In a game space where everyone ignores the rules, camaraderie and personality from every performer is required. Ultra-physical effort is also needed for this demonstration of skill. However, don’t be fooled, it’s all for fun.

PREMIERE
Extracts from the play Fente-toi! will be premiered for STM users. In fact, this new creation will be presented by Tangente as a whole from November 8 to 11, 2012 at the Studio Hydro-Québec du Monument-National, as a shared program with Sarah-Eve Grant.

CHOREOGRAPHY
A Montréal native, Isabelle Boulanger studied dance at Cégep Saint-Laurent (Montréal), and then at The School of Dance (Ottawa). She continued her training at LADMMI, the school of contemporary dance, which she completed in May 2011. Along with her studies, Isabelle soon discovered her talents as a choreographer. Wishing to make dance accessible to everyone, her approach incorporates humour, levity and derision. In summer 2011, Zone Homa presented her ongoing research for the play Fente-toi! at the Maison de la Culture Maisonneuve. She then presented Une grande fente pour dire «allô» as part of the Tangente Danses-Buissonnières choreography competition. This last play, which was very well received by the public, was premiered at the Studio Hydro-Québec du Monument-National in September 2011 and at the Théâtre Aux Écuries in May 2012 as part of OFF.T.A. This year, Isabelle was also invited to present all her plays within a school context to raise awareness among students about current contemporary dance trends.

MÉTROARTS
The STM is closely linked to Montréalers’ quality of urban life. The artistic fervour of our creative performers is, therefore, a major component of its identity. Its role is to participate in the democratization of art by making it accessible to citizens within a cultural space, located in a venue which is highly frequented by many Montréalers and tourists.

The mandate that the Société has given itself by creating MetroArts is to make the Métro become an amphi-theatre of original and unique cultural events so that customers using the system find their trips enjoyable.

TANGENTE – LABORATOIRE DE MOUVEMENTS CONTEMPORAINS
Founded in Montréal in 1980 by a community of artists, Tangente - Laboratoire de mouvements contemporains is the primary dissemination location in Québec. It is dedicated exclusively to contemporary dance. A true "incubator" of Montréal, Canadian and foreign choreography, Tangente has introduced the work of nearly 1,500 choreographers since its creation. With programming that includes more than 30 innovative artistic projects, some forty choreographers and numerous partnerships, Tangente is an essential platform for progression and experimentation.
