The STM still a key player in Montréal Museums Day

Press release

Montréal, May 2, 2013   – To help visitors get around more easily on Montréal Museums Day (May 26), the Société de transport de Montréal (STM) will once again be the official carrier and will offer a free shuttle service as it has done every year since the event was launched in 1987. Participants in this special day will thus be able to travel free of charge from one museum to another and view Montréal from a new perspective.

Forty-five shuttle buses will travel along six routes created for the event. Once again this year, the routes will originate in the heart of the Quartier des spectacles on the Promenade des artistes, between Saint-Urbain and Jeanne-Mance streets. The buses will run every fifteen minutes between 9 a.m. and 4:30 p.m., and participants may embark or disembark at any of the museums along the way.

“The Board of Montréal Museum Directors and the STM have worked together closely on this event for twenty-seven years. Year after year, we work to ensure the success of this amazing cultural activity. The sponsorship of the STM, with its free shuttles, helps make culture available to all and facilitates access to participating museums and other activities planned for this special day. I encourage people to take full advantage of this opportunity and to use the shuttles placed at their disposal to travel from one museum to another,” said Michel Labrecque, chair of the STM’s board of directors.

“I would also like to take this opportunity to invite all those who participate in this great event to come hear some of our Metro Stars, solo musicians and groups that usually perform in the metro corridors,” added Labrecque. “From 11:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., our Stars will take turns performing on the Promenade des artistes to add a little sunshine to your day. The STM’s Stars program was established to assist metro artists by offering them visibility and promotional support. In 2013, sixty artists were selected following a rigorous audition process.”

Anyone choosing not to use the free shuttles will still be able to visit most of the participating museums, many of which are accessible year-round via the regular bus and metro system upon presentation of a valid transit fare. Full scheduling information is available by telephone at AUTOBUS (514 288-6287), on the stm.info Web site, on the mobile site m.stm.info, by SMS messaging at 52786, or via the STM’s iPhone and Android apps.
