Montréal, May 12, 2016 – To help visitors get around more easily on Montréal Museums Day next May 24, the Société de transport de Montréal (STM) will serve as the official carrier, as it has done for the past 30 years, and offer a free shuttle service. Anyone taking part in the tour can travel from one museum to the next for free and rediscover Montréal’s cultural side from a different perspective.

On that day, some 38 buses will provide 350 hours of service along five routes from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Again this year, the various routes will all leave from the centre of the Quartier des spectacles, and the gathering point for passengers will be on the Promenade des artistes, between Saint-Urbain and Jeanne-Mance. The free service will feature departures every 20 minutes for 4 of the 5 routes, while the last route will have departures every 35 minutes. Participants who wish to do so can also board the shuttle bus at any one of the museums located along the route.

This year, to mark the métro’s soon-to-be 50th anniversary, the STM will send out a squad of experienced hosts on these buses. They will use humour to test participants on their knowledge of public artworks inside the métro.

Along with the shuttle service, museum-goers can also use the STM’s bus and métro system. Unlimited public transit for 24 hours (1-day pass) or for weekends (6 pm Friday to 5 am Monday) can prove interesting for occasional transit users.

« There is no doubt that the STM’s participation in this popular annual event helps to bring culture and public together while offering easy access to participating museums and activities being held on that very special day. And so we invite all Montrealers to take public transit when taking part in this cultural event, as it will certainly make getting around simpler » stated Philippe Schnobb, chairman of the STM board of directors.

A few numbers:  À valider
Last year, of the 100 000 people who took part in Montréal Museums Day, 10% used the STM’s shuttle service and 66% took the bus and/or métro to either go directly to museums or to the central departure point for shuttles.
