Montreal Oasis Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon: the STM is back in the race

Press release

The Montreal Oasis Rock ’n’ Roll Marathon and Half-Marathon and the Société de transport de Montréal (STM) are proud to announce their continued partnership in the 2016 Marathon.

Montreal, April 14, 2016. The Montreal Oasis Rock ’n’ Roll Marathon and Half-Marathon and the Société de transport de Montréal (STM) are proud to announce their continued partnership in the 2016 Marathon.

Following the success of last year’s initiative, the Montreal Oasis Rock ’n’ Roll Marathon and Half-Marathon will again offer all participants a 1-day fare valid the day of the race, which will make getting around on September 25 that much easier. Furthermore, by registering before April 30 using the code STM, participants will get the chance to win a pass to the entire STM network valid for the rest of the year, until December 31, 2016.

“The ease of using the STM transportation network to get to the starting lines is very much appreciated by runners from Montreal and abroad. There’s no need to worry about parking!”, explains Dominique Arsenault, spokesperson for the Marathon. “These passes also give runners the opportunity to discover or rediscover Montreal and all its landmarks after the race during the afternoon”.

“The STM is committed to promoting mobility in all its forms. The fact that we can offer more than 35,000 runners free access to the STM network with their registration strengthens the link between active transportation and public transportation, while encouraging a healthier and more environmentally-friendly way to get around. Just by choosing to use public transportation, our customers are already taking a step toward better health. We calculated that the average user walks the equivalent of 2 km in a day. This amounts to 30 minutes of walking,” declares Philippe Schnobb, Chair of the STM.

The partnership between the Montreal Oasis Rock ’n’ Roll Marathon and Half-Marathon and the STM, which exists since 2014, also aims to show that physical fitness doesn’t only apply to athletes: "Through the various race distances offered in the Marathon (Marathon, 1/2 Marathon, 10K, 5K and 1K, for children 3 to 11 years), each person can go at their own pace, in the race of their choice," said Ms. Arsenault. This is especially true given that training for the race involves only a very simple routine and bit of motivation, and can be accomplished by adopting certain lifestyle choices like integrating public and active transportation into one’s routine.
