Strike mandate voted by bus drivers, métro operators and support service employees union – STM acknowledges its unionized employees’ decision

Press release

La STM a pris acte de la décision de ses chauffeurs, opérateurs de métro et employés des services connexes d’autoriser leur syndicat à déclencher une grève.

Montréal, Thursday, May 3, 2018 – The Société de transport de Montréal (STM) has taken note of the decision of its bus drivers, métro operators and support service employees to authorize their union to call a strike at the time of its choice, within the framework of negotiation of their collective agreement. It is important to note that the strike mandate does not mean that there will necessarily be a strike.

The STM emphasizes that formal negotiations with this union got underway in January and are ongoing. Meetings are frequent and the issues under discussion do not involve this group of employees’ salary framework or benefits.

The STM wants to reassure its clientele that in the event of a strike by its bus drivers, métro operators and support service employees, it has to be notified seven working days in advance, as public transit is subject to the law regarding the maintaining of essential services.

As the STM places top priority on its transit users, it is committed to informing them promptly of any changes in the situation.
