    Frequently asked questions

There is no deadline. If you already have a student OPUS card with photo, it will expire on the date indicated on the card.

Please note that you may obtain or renew your student OPUS card with photo at any time as of August 1 to avoid the fall lineups. Renew your card between August 1 and October 31 so you do not lose a month of your student status.

After October 31, you can still get your new card, but you will not be eligible for the reduced fare until you submit a new application. Also bear in mind that your student status will be valid for a shorter time period, as student OPUS cards expire on October 31.

    Ages 6-11:

Your student OPUS card with photo is valid until October 31 after your 12th birthday.

For students age 11: Cards issued between August 1 and December 31 expire on October 31 of the following year. Cards issued between January 1 and July 31 expire on October 31 of the same year.

    Ages 12-14:

Your student OPUS card with photo is valid for two years. Check the expiration date on the back to see if you have to renew it this year. If you will turn 15 by October 31 of the current year, the card will be valid for one year.

    Age 15:

Your student OPUS card with photo is valid for one year. The expiration date is on the back.

Cards issued between August 1 and December 31 expire on October 31 of the following year.

Cards issued between January 1 and July 31 expire on October 31 of the same year.

Note: students who will turn 16 by October 31 of the current year must include the seal of their educational institution on their form.

    Ages 16 and over:

Cards issued between August 1 and December 31 expire on October 31 of the following year.

Cards issued between January 1 and July 31 expire on October 31 of the same year.

If you order your card online, the fares will not be automatically transferred to your new OPUS card:

    • Passage titles: Attention! To facilitate the recovery of your transit fares, it is important to transfer those that are still valid to your new OPUS photo card before loading new fares. Go to a station agent at the station to have them transferred to your new card.
    • Monthly passes: Use your card until the end of the current month. Then, use your new OPUS card with photo to load your monthly pass at a reduced rate.

If you get your card at the school tour or photo studio: Yes, your fares will be transferred unless there is a technical issue.

What do I have to do before making my appointment?

    • Make sure that you are eligible for the reduced student fare.
    • Click on the “In person at the photo studio” tab to find out what documents to bring with you.

How do I make an appointment online?

    • Click on the “In person at the photo studio” tab, then click on the “Make an appointment” button.

Can I go to the Photo Studio without an appointment?

We strongly recommend that you make an appointment, as you will then have priority. Please note that when demand is high, customers without an appointment may not be served.

Can I make an appointment by phone?

Unfortunately, due to the high number of requests, we are unable to book appointments by phone.

I lost my confirmation email and my reminder email or text message. What should I do?

If you remember the date and time, go to your appointment. If not, return to the appointment web page and start over.

How do I cancel or change my appointment?

Open the confirmation or reminder email for your appointment. Click on the link to cancel or change your appointment window. If you do not see the email, check your junk folder.

How long should I expect the appointment to take?

It is hard to know exactly how long it will take to get your student OPUS card.

Making the card generally takes about 10 minutes. However, some days are busier than others, so it may take longer to verify your identity and validate your proof of student status.

Can I book an appointment for my child?

Yes! Just enter the information of the person who will go to the appointment.

Can I book more than one person at a time for an appointment?

Yes, as long as they are all members of the same family. When filling out the form, write the names of all students for whom you are booking, separated by dashes.

What does the checkbox “I would like to be notified of next year’s renewal period” mean?

If you check this box, you will receive an email reminding you to renew your photo OPUS card next year. Your email will be saved for the next year only and for that purpose only. This option is not mandatory.

What should I do if I have technical issues booking an appointment?

If you have problems booking your appointment, we suggest that you close your browser and start over.

    Is the appointment platform secure?

Yes. The platform we use meets the highest security and efficiency requirements. All information entered is entirely encrypted and stored in Canada.

We accept cash, debit and credit cards (Visa, Mastercard).

I am enrolled as a part-time student for the fall term, but full-time for the winter. Can I get the reduced rate now?

No. You must be enrolled as a full-time student at the time of your request.

I am a part-time student at two different institutions.

If you are a part-time student at two different institutions, you must present two documents proving part-time student status, which include the credits for each course or total number of credits per institution, the registrar’s signature and the school’s seal. Your total number of credits must be the equivalent of full-time status. You can then be considered a full-time student and will be eligible for the photo OPUS card.

Can I show my fall term class schedule as proof of student status to get a student OPUS card with photo?

Class schedules are not accepted as proof of student status.

Can I get my student OPUS card with photo by presenting my student ID card instead of the form?

No. The form is required for students ages 16 and over.

    .

My institution offers online proof of student status. Do I still need to attach my school’s seal to my form?

No, your form does not need to include a seal. However, you do have to complete the “To be filled out by applicant” and “Mandatory signature” sections.

See a métro station agent or go to the STM Photo Studio with a photo ID. We will replace your card along with all the fares that were on it when it was lost.

Your new card will be valid for the same period as the old one. You will only have to pay the card issuance fee.

No. Each institution plans their tour for their own students and schedules and will not accept students from other institutions.

If you are a Transport adapté customer aged 6 to 15, your Transport adapté ID OPUS card already qualifies you for the reduced rate, so you do not need another photo OPUS card.
