A new bus route for workers in Anjou and Saint-Lonard

Montreal, 15 June 2005 - Beginning June 20, the Société de transport de Montréal will introduce a new bus route, the 39 – Des Grandes-Prairies. From Monday to Friday during rush hour, except holidays, the new route will establish a link between Montréal-Nord and Anjou’s business district, while running through the industrial sectors of Anjou and Saint-Lonard boroughs and providing public transit service to the commercial area along Renaude-Lapointe street.

Heading east, bus service will begin at the corner of D’Amiens and Htel-de-Ville streets from 6 to 9:30 a.m. and from 3:30 to 6:30 p.m. Heading west, departures will take place at the corner of des Sciences and des Bâtisseurs from 6:45 to 10:15 a.m. and from 4:15 to 7:15 p.m.

According to Claude Dauphin, chairman of the STM board of directors, ” The business and industrial sectors of Anjou and Saint-Lonard are expanding rapidly and close to 14,000 people work there every day. Creating the 39 – Des Grandes-Prairies bus route will enable us to maintain a permanent link between Montréal-Nord, Saint-Lonard and Anjou, and to meet with the needs of business and industry located in these areas. This new service is consistent with the goals set out in the STM’s 2004-2008 Business Plan, as it adds some 2,000 hours of service for transit users. We estimate that about 300 new passengers will use this bus route right from the start and that ridership will increase along with the expansion of the commercial and industrial zones.”

For more information about this new service, transit users should call STM-INFO (786-4636) or consult the STM website at www.stm.info for more useful transit information.
