Three quarters of buses inspected are compliant and will be back on the road tomorrow morning

Press release

A certain number of buses, delivered between 2016 and 2019, were found non-compliant last week and will remain immobilized for a few days for temporary repairs, which began this morning.

Montréal, March 24, 2019 — The Société de transport de Montréal (STM) wishes to inform its customers that a certain number of buses, delivered between 2016 and 2019, were found non-compliant last week and will remain immobilized for a few days for temporary repairs, which began this morning.

This situation follows an emergency inspection demanded by manufacturer Nova Bus last Friday for a technical problem involving the power steering system of its vehicles. Corrosion was detected in the power cable of the power steering system, which could make using the steering wheel difficult. Temporary repairs on these parts have begun and will continue over the next few days as we receive the parts from the manufacturer.

At this time, 191 buses have already been returned to the road. As certain buses remain immobilized and unable to provide service, the planned schedules of numerous bus lines have been temporarily modified. The STM plans on putting 1,200 buses on the road Monday morning to provide service.

Although drivers are not responsible for the situation affecting the bus fleet, customers can count on them to deliver the best service possible in the circumstances.

Useful information tools for customers

Customers are invited to use the STM’s real-time information tools to find out bus departure times on stm.info, its mobile version, through partner applications Transit and Chrono (which also provide information on how far away the next buses are from the stops), and via SMS.

In addition, information terminals located at several métro stations provide real-time bus information. Some bus shelters also provide next departure times for buses at stops.
