Impact on local residents
Construction of the de la Villanelle auxiliary building will begin in mid-July. Preparatory work will be done first, through the end of August. The final construction site will be in place from September for several years.
Preparatory phase: from mid-July to the end of August
Permanent phase: from early September for several years
Impact for pedestrians
- The sidewalk on the south side of Rue Jean-Talon will be blocked during the construction period. A walkway will be set up around the site.
- One side of the sidewalk will be maintained on Rue de la Villanelle throughout the project.
- Flaggers are posted at entrances and exits to keep pedestrians safe.
- Be vigilant and make sure you cross at the traffic signals, use pedestrian crossings and comply with all instructions issued by traffic controllers.
Impact on traffic
- From mid-July to mid-August, one lane on Rue Jean-Talon will be maintained in each direction. In the first few weeks, preparatory work will take place on the north side of the street and then continue on the south side.
- During the month of August, Rue de la Villanelle will be closed south of Jean-Talon. Local traffic will be permitted only via Rue de l’Élysée.
Join your local good neighbour committee!
Do you live near the future Lacordaire station or de la Villanelle auxiliary building and want to have your say in how the Lacordaire worksite will fit into your neighbourhood this winter?
A good neighbour committee has been set up as a space for dialogue between the Blue line project and the local community. We’re currently looking for people who live in the area to join the committee and represent local residents at a few meetings per year.
The committee’s purpose is to:
- Provide information and outline the different phases of the project.
- Start a dialogue between residents and project representatives that will continue throughout the work.
- Discuss how the impact of the work will be managed so that resident members can share this information with their local community.
- Understand the concerns residents have about the work and find solutions together.
- Allow local residents to make suggestions on specific topics chosen by the project office.
Write to us to apply or to find out more.

Preparatory work: First worksite done!
Work being done near the future Villanelle auxiliary building mainly consists of relocating urban public utilities (underground cabling and a Hydro-Québec utility pole). We will then have free rein to begin the massive excavation that will be needed to build the new infrastructure.
Here are some photos of the work we’ve done:
We relocated a Hydro-Québec utility pole, freeing up the space needed to build the new infrastructure on the southwest side of the intersection.
We also dug trenches to install cabling underneath the street that will be protected by red conduits. The cables will connect to the new electric utility pole.
We then poured concrete over the new conduits and ran the cabling through them, moving it from the other side of the street where it was in the way of building the new auxiliary building.

At Le Boulevard Shopping Centre
An auxiliary building is a service building, closed to the public and located between two métro stations, that houses a variety of mechanical and electrical equipment needed for métro operations. This includes ventilation equipment, power supply infrastructure and pumps to remove runoff water. There are currently hundreds of these buildings in the métro network.
