Negociations
The STM signs a collective agreement with the bus drivers union and requests conciliation with the Syndicat du transport de Montréal (CSN) representing maintenance workers

Montreal, October 9, 2003 –  Last night, STM management signed a four-year collective agreement with the Syndicat des chauffeurs d’autobus, oprateurs de métro et employs des services connexes au transport de la STM (local 1983 – SCFP). However, as negociations with the Syndicat du transport de Montréal (CSN) are deadlocked, the STM has asked the Labour Minister to appoint a conciliator so that discussions may proceed.

Indeed, representatives for the maintenance workers’ union effectively put an end to talks when they refused to remove t-shirts that ridiculed senior management and called them «thick-headed traitors». In turn, the STM made its position clear: management will continue bargaining in good faith, but respect for ethics and the persons involved in the negociations must be maintained.

The STM is currently negociating with three other bargaining units: the Syndicat des employs de bureau, techniciens et professionnels-SCFP (592 members), the Syndicat des professionnels (200 members) and the Syndicat des employs du transport en commun-CSN (190 divisional clerks).
