Due to planned work on the Jacques-Cartier Bridge during the construction holiday, the Société de transport de Montréal (STM) is encouraging the public to use the métro more often between July 21 and August 4. During this period, the STM will increase service on the yellow line by using nine-car trains rather than the usual six-car trains. This added service will accommodate customers wishing to use the métro during this period. About work on the Jacques-Cartier Bridge This work will be carried out by The Jacques Cartier and Champlain Bridges Inc. (JCCB) during the construction holiday. During this period, the concrete guardrails on the bridge approaches will be rebuilt and the off-ramp towards Taschereau Boulevard will be reconfigured. One traffic lane out of five will be closed on a continuous basis between 2 a.m. on Sunday, July 21, and 5 a.m. on Monday, August 5. On the bridge, two lanes per direction will remain open to traffic during this period. The bike path on the west side of the bridge will also be closed completely, and a detour will be possible via the sidewalk on the east side. Drivers are invited to read the JCCBI blog at www.pontjacquescartier.ca to monitor progress of the construction work. –30 –
