The 2014 Les étoiles du métro musicians are here!

Press release

Société de transport de Montréal (STM) and the Regroupement des musiciens du métro de Montréal (RMMM) have selected the 50 music groups or solo performers who will take part in the third edition of the Les Étoiles du métro program in 2014.

Montréal, February 10, 2014 – Société de transport de Montréal (STM) and the Regroupement des musiciens du métro de Montréal (RMMM) have selected the 50 music groups or solo performers who will take part in the third edition of the Les Étoiles du métro program in 2014.

Launched in 2012, the program has designated four special locations for star musicians at Berri-UQAM (Saint-Denis exit), Place-des-Arts (next to the mural by Frédéric Back), Jean-Talon and McGill stations. Furthermore, Les Étoiles musicians will be given the opportunity to perform at a number of STM partner events, like Nuit blanche, Les Journées de la culture or the annual Bike Fest, and gain visibility beyond the métro.

Les Étoiles musicians are easy to find as they put up a promotional banner with their stage name before playing. Their talents can be discovered by métro users according to a calendar of reserved playing time planned by the RMMM. Each musician must commit to performing a minimum of six hours a week in the métro. Their only remuneration is from the generosity of transit users showing their appreciation.

« Les Étoiles du métro program is part of a larger move to enhance the transit user experience and aims to offer a wider range of talents, help them emerge, and provide a framework for musical performances in the métro, leading to a richer selection of styles while promoting the musicians, » explained Marie Lefebvre, head of division – marketing, STM.

« We are very pleased to launch the third edition of Les Étoiles du métro with the STM. The quality of musicians increases year after year. The stars of the 2014 edition will make the Montréal métro resonate with the quality and variety of their music, » added Clément Courtois, in charge of communications for MusiMétroMontréal.

A stringent selection process
Star musicians were chosen following a stringent series of auditions headed last November by three talent scouts from the Montréal music scene (Jean-Pierre Labrecque, Alexandre Le Mouël and Benoît Piché).
