For reasons out of control for the STM and to support citizens participation in the process, the public consultation has been delayed for a few weeks. This page reflects the updated information.

Next year, the Société de transport de Montréal (STM) will begin construction work on the Northwest Attachment Centre (NAC), a new underground structure needed to maintain the métro network, in the Snowdon area.

The public consultation on the project will take place from November 2 to 24, 2020. This is a chance for local residents, business owners and organizations to get informed on the details of the project and share their opinions, expectations and suggestions. Due to the current public health situation, the consultation will be held online. There will be three phases:

  • November 2: Information session (webcast)
  • November 10: Answers to questions (webcast)
  • November 24: Input session and deadline to submit a written statement

At the end of the consultation, the Public Consultation Commission will submit a report to the STM with their recommendations for integrating the project harmoniously into the surrounding environment.

Facilitating métro maintenance
Building this new infrastructure is part of the STM’s strategy to reduce its asset maintenance deficit. Our métro network is aging and requires a lot of maintenance and renovation. Some tasks can only be carried out at night, within a very narrow time window when the métro is not running. This constraint requires highly complex logistical planning.

This new gateway to the network, located at the intersection of the Blue and Orange lines, will not only increase the production capacity of night-time worksites but also reduce the travel time of vehicles in the network and increase the flexibility of logistical planning. It will allow the STM to meet the increasing demand from its large worksites, which are growing in size and number. The Blue line extension also requires a new attachment centre to maintain the new stations in the decades to come.

November 2: It’s a date!
The STM invites any individuals who will be affected by this project to participate in the public consultation. With your help, the Commission’s work will contribute to a project that, once completed, will benefit all of Montréal’s métro users.
