The STM opens its real-time data to developers

News

All real-time bus schedule and location data are now available to the whole developer community.

The STM announces that, as of today, all real-time bus schedule and location data are available to the whole developer community. This is a much-anticipated announcement because real-time functionality can now be integrated into various transit apps.

Real-time information has been available for bus system users on web and mobile tools since December 2017. Initially, during a debugging and testing period, the data was available on the STM’s beta and mobile websites as well as the Transit app, followed by the Chrono app. After several months of tests and validation to ensure data robustness and reliability, the STM is now able to provide access to the whole developer community.

Registration
Developers will be able to obtain real-time data by registering on the STM developer portal. This system will control the volume of data transmitted to avoid overloading the servers and also ensure the quality of the use of the data.

There are two ways developers can access the registration portal:

A call to the Montréal tech community

By making this data available, the STM hopes to benefit from the dynamism and innovation of the developer community and to encourage them to continue to implement innovative apps offering a greater choice to users, who will then choose the solution that best meets their needs.
