Launch of route 256 – Navette Or LaSalle

Montréal, October 7, 2009
– Mr. Michel Labrecque, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Société de transport de Montréal (STM) and city councillor for the Mile-End district of the borough of Plateau – Mont-Royal, and Mme Manon Barbe, mayor of the borough of LaSalle, today announced a new route targeted primarily at seniors living in residences in LaSalle. The new route 256 – Navette Or LaSalle will make it easier for seniors to travel by public transit in their neighbourhood as of October 13.

The 33-km round-trip route includes 17 stops in each direction and will serve several seniors’ residences in the area as well as the main local points of interest for this clientele. In addition to the residences, the shuttle will serve Carrefour Angrignon, CLSC LaSalle, LaSalle Hospital, two community centres, the Octogone library as well as the Aquadôme.

Route 256 – Navette Or LaSalle will run on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The trip will take approximately 50 minutes in each direction. As well, the route number will be displayed on a gold-coloured background at the shuttle stops to make it easier to identify this particular service.

“We are pleased to announce this new ‘navette Or’ route today as part of the service improvement program. With an increased service offer, we are in a position to better respond to the specific needs of seniors and make travelling easier for them in the LaSalle borough. I would also like to emphasize that these new shuttle services are possible thanks to the financial support of the ministère des Transports and the Ville de Montréal,” declared Mr. Labrecque.

“The major advantage of this shuttle is that it will enable our seniors to go from the door of their building to most service points in the borough without having to transfer. Our older citizens will be able to go to their destination without having to deal with busy intersections or cross large parking lots, as they will be dropped off at the door. I would like to thank the STM for responding positively to our request for a ‘navette Or’ in LaSalle. Thank you also to the representatives from the seniors’ associations and services for their valuable contribution to this project,” stated Mme Barbe, mayor of the borough of LaSalle.

To publicize the new route 256 – Navette Or LaSalle, flyers will be distributed in each of the seniors’ residences served by this shuttle. In addition, community organizations and the borough will promote the service. Finally, posters will be displayed in locations frequented by seniors and along the shuttle route.
