Rock ‘n’ Roll Oasis Montreal Marathon and the STM step up their support for runners

Press release

Competitor Canada, the company behind the popular Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon Series, and the Société de transport de Montréal (STM) have signed a three-year partnership agreement regarding the Rock ‘n’ Roll Oasis Montreal Marathon & 1/2 Marathon. In 2017, this collaboration will make it much easier for the event’s 37,000 or more participants to get around as they will receive an STM transit pass valid for the day of their race.

MONTREAL, April 26, 2017. – Competitor Canada, the company behind the popular Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon Series, and the Société de transport de Montréal (STM) have signed a three-year partnership agreement regarding the Rock ‘n’ Roll Oasis Montreal Marathon & 1/2 Marathon. In 2017, this collaboration will make it much easier for the event’s 37,000 or more participants to get around as they will receive an STM transit pass valid for the day of their race. “Both Montreal and out-of-town runners will enjoy numerous benefits from this arrangement,” said Marathon spokesperson Dominique Arsenault. “They will notice how simple it is to use the STM transportation network to get to the start locations of the five races and to get home afterwards,” she added.

This is the third year the two companies have partnered, with the shared objectives of facilitating opportunities to be active and of promoting mobility in all its forms. An important addition this year — given that it’s the first time Quebec's biggest participative sports event will span over two days — is that the Marathon is stepping up its offer by providing transit passes to participants for both Saturday and Sunday, based on the day of their race.

“The STM is delighted to once again team up with the Rock ‘n’ Roll Oasis Montreal Marathon and provide transportation to the runners on the day of their race. And using public transit is an excellent first step toward fitness since we’ve calculated that, in one day, the average bus and métro user will walk 2,000 metres, which is the equivalent of 30 minutes of exercise,” said Philippe Schnobb, Chairman of the Board of the STM.

On September 23 and 24, Montreal will turn into one big playground for running enthusiasts, their friends and families, supporters and music fans. “The Marathon’s success is largely attributed to the commitment and loyalty of partners that are popular among the public,” noted Ms. Arsenault. “We are expecting this 27th edition of the Marathon to be the biggest since its inception.”

About the Rock ‘n’ Roll Oasis Montreal Marathon & ½ Marathon

In 2017, the Rock ‘n’ Roll Oasis Montreal Marathon & ½ Marathon, whose 27th edition coincides with Montreal’s 375th anniversary year, will be marked by novelty. Organized by Festival de la Santé, in conjunction with Competitor Canada, the Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon Series is the world's largest running series, with over 500,000 runners participating in events worldwide every year. Celebrating its 20th anniversary this year with the international 20 Years Running campaign, the series started with the simple idea of making running fun, and has transformed the running landscape by livening up the route with live bands, cheer teams and entertaining water stations, creating a block-party atmosphere for participants and spectators alike. Today, the series of marathons and half-marathons has spread to more than 30 destination cities, drawing visitors from around the world. Over the history of the Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon Series, charity partners have raised more than $300 million through the events for a variety of worthy causes. Registration for the Rock ‘n’ Roll Oasis Montreal Marathon and Half Marathon can be accessed at the following address, and there are five distances to choose from: www.runrocknroll.com/montreal/en/register/.
