New reservation-only shared taxibus service in the Highway 40 area of Rivière-des-Prairies

Montréal, November 19, 2019 – La Société de transport de Montréal (STM) is pleased to announce the implementation of a new reservation-only shared taxibus service in the Highway 40 area of Rivière-des-Prairies to improve public transportation service in Montréal’s east end. This service will be operational from Monday to Friday during peak periods, except on legal holidays, starting November 25, 2019.

“The aim of this new shared taxibus service is to facilitate local trips for both area residents and employees of the Jean-R. Marcotte wastewater treatment plant, as well as of several businesses located along Highway 40 between the Henri-Bourassa/Highway 40 interchange and Saint-Jean-Baptiste Boulevard,” says Philippe Schnobb, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the STM.

“I have always defended shared taxibuses as an effective way to improve public transportation service in certain areas. I am delighted with this additional service provided by the STM. It will truly improve transit for citizens and workers in Rivière-des-Prairies,” adds Caroline Bourgeois, Mayor of Rivière-des-Prairies – Pointe-aux-Trembles borough.

Each taxibus route will involve a loop, starting from Rivière-des-Prairies train station, and include six stops: one at the Jean-R. Marcotte wastewater treatment plant, four others along the Highway 40 service road and the last at the intersection of Saint-Jean-Baptiste Boulevard and Henri-Bourassa Boulevard, before returning to Rivière-des-Prairies train station. It will be possible to get on or off at any station along the route.

Customers will have to reserve a seat at least 40 minutes before each trip by phone or online, and must show a valid STM fare card, since cash is not accepted for shared taxibus service. Schedules and reservation conditions are available on the STM website (www.stm.info).

The STM offers several other shared taxibus services, namely at Baie-D’Urfé, Côte-Vertu Puest (weekends), Anjou train station (industrial park), Anjou train station (residential area), Lachine train station, Rivière-des-Prairies train station (Pointe-aux-Prairies residential area), Île-Bizard, Norman Street (Lachine), Lachine industrial park, the Sainte-Marie neighbourhood (Sainte-Anne-de-Bellevue), Senneville, Jean-Drapeau Park and the Montréal Technopark (Saint-Laurent). Starting November 25, the taxibus service during winter in Jean-Drapeau Park will begin.
