Improved bus service in the Rivière-des-Prairies–Pointe-aux-Trembles sector as of August 27, 2018
Montréal, August 22, 2018 –– The Société de transport de Montréal (STM) is announcing improved bus service in the Rivière-des-Prairies–Pointe-aux-Trembles sector, as of August 27, 2018.
“The implementation of a new north-south link between Rivière-des-Prairies and Pointe-aux-Trembles aims to improve the customer experience and make traveling easier. This initiative resolves a long-standing concern of citizens and reflects the borough’s desire to modernize the Saint-Jean-Baptiste corridor,” says Philippe Schnobb, Chairman of the STM Board of Directors.
Creation of 81 Saint-Jean-Baptiste
The STM will launch the new 81 Saint-Jean-Baptiste line, providing access to shops, employment hubs and cultural activities located between the Roussin community centre, near the Place du Village-de-la-Pointe-aux-Trembles and Espace-Rivière, at the corner of Perras and Rodolphe-Forget in Rivière-des-Prairies. Creating a north-south link will reduce public transit travel time and the number of transfers.
The 81 line will run from 6:30 a.m. to 9 p.m., Monday to Friday, and from 7:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. Buses will run every 25 minutes. The 11-km trip will enable the bus to take the following main roadways: Saint-Jean-Baptiste, Henri-Bourassa, Armand-Chaput, Maurice-Duplessis and Rodolphe-Forget. The line will also serve the Institut Philippe-Pinel, the Riviere-des-Prairies detention centre, train station and its neighbouring areas, as well as the employment hubs located near Maurice-Duplessis and Industriel.
Service adjustments to three other bus lines
With the new line, route changes will be made to the 40 Henri-Bourassa-Est, 86 Pointe-aux-Trembles and 183 Gouin Est lines.
The 40 will now take Sherbrooke between Saint-Jean-Baptiste and 40th Avenue, serving the Prince-Arthur corridor before returning to its new terminus at the Pointe-aux-Trembles train station. The 183 will now link the Riviere-des-Prairies train station and Carrefour de la Pointe-aux-Trembles by taking Industriel Boulevard. Finally, the 86 will replace the 183 on Rivière-des-Prairies Boulevard between Maurice-Duplessis and Gouin.
All these measures represent an increase of approximately 13,000 service hours per year.
