During this unprecedented crisis, the Société de transport de Montréal (STM) has introduced new ways for students to renew or obtain their reduced-fare student OPUS cards.
The STM is encouraging students to obtain their cards from home. They can do so either online or by mail.
Obtaining a card from home
Online
This year, students from about a hundred educational institutions can get their photo OPUS card directly from their educational institution’s website, easily and conveniently. If you are a full-time student with a valid Quebec address, simply use your username and password to log in to your institution’s portal and pay the $15 fee by credit card. The photo on your student card will be used for your OPUS card. The card will be mailed to your home within seven business days.
By mail
This year, you have the option to renew your card by mail. Usually reserved for people age 65 and up, this method is now open to students as well. The form is available online.
For a list of required documents and accepted methods of payment, see our reduced-fare student OPUS web page.
Obtaining a card in person
For students who are unable to obtain their cards from home, there are two other options that require making a trip.
STM photo studio: by appointment only
Beginning on August 1, students can get their cards made at the STM photo studio, located at 1755 Berri Street, by appointment only. The studio’s hours of operation will be extended to accommodate increased demand, but capacity will be reduced to allow compliance with physical distancing rules. Payment by debit will be accepted.
Starting tomorrow, you can make your photo studio appointment through our specially designed platform.
School tour
The STM photography tour will still visit some educational institutions this year, but it will be reduced significantly. About 60 institutions will hold photo sessions in the coming weeks.
