STM celebrates holiday season and announces extended service hours for New Year’s Eve

Nouvelle

On the night of December 31, 2024, to January 1, 2025, the STM will extend its hours of operation on the métro’s Green, Orange and Yellow lines, all at the usual fare. The transit agency is also launching a new initiative in the métro today as a fun surprise for the holidays.

With the holidays just around the corner, the Société de transport de Montréal (STM) is informing its customers that it will be extending its métro service hours on lines 1 – Green, 2 – Orange, and 4 – Yellow for the night of December 31, 2024, to January 1, 2025.

Last-train times on these three lines will vary by métro station according to a special event schedule. This means it will be especially important for customers to plan their trips using the www.stm.info/en/NewYears page, which shows the latest train departures for each station. Line 5 – Blue will run on its usual schedule.

The extended métro service will help make travel safer and more efficient on New Year’s Eve for customers planning to celebrate. Of course, night buses will also be running as usual. The usual fares will apply.

Seasonal station names

At the time of this announcement, the STM is also rolling out an all-new initiative intended to bring the magic of the holiday season to life in the Montréal métro. Inspired by its classic Métro Ho Ho map, which replaces the names of métro stations with holiday themed puns, the STM has swapped out the station names on some of its platform banners for more festive alternatives.

From December 2 to 9, customers are invited to explore the métro network and find the six stations that have temporarily changed their names, following the STM on social media for clues. There will also be a contest on social media that gives participants the chance to win a full-sized print of the Métro-Ho-Ho map.

Call for donations

Because it’s the season of giving, the modified platform banners also display a call for donations to Réchaud-Bus, which has been delivering hot meals to disadvantaged children in Montréal for nearly 30 years. Customers can support that mission by scanning the QR code on the banners to donate. Réchaud-Bus is powered by volunteers, many of whom are STM employees and retirees.
