The STM reiterates its commitment to safety for all in the context of the pandemic by adopting a new program put forward by the north-american transportation industry.
Since the start of the pandemic, the STM has been committed to doing everything possible to ensure the safety of its public transit network for users and employees and throughout its facilities. Continuing this commitment, it has adopted a new program implemented by the American Public Transportation Association (APTA) aimed at restoring users’ confidence and encouraging them to use public transit despite the pandemic.
Like the other 200 or so transit authorities participating in the program (including Chicago, New York, Philadelphia and Ottawa), the Montréal network thus undertakes to consistently respect a set of conditions and commitments for the organization, customers and employees:
- Following recommendations and guidelines from public health experts and governing bodies and authorities
- Making safety a shared responsibility through the cleaning and disinfecting and proper ventilation of vehicles and facilities, and by promoting respect for social distancing requirements, wearing of face coverings and other applicable instructions
- Keeping passengers informed so they can make safe choices
- Ensuring the health and safety of customers and employees
With this renewed commitment, the STM sends a clear message : everyone has an important role to play to help keep transit safe during the pandemic. Together, clients, employees and corporation, we are stronger.
