The Défi STM surpasses its goal and donates over $22,000 to four charitable organizations

News

Participants travelled a total of 39,000 kilometres, a distance equivalent to 580 times the length of the Société de Transport de Montréal’s métro network.

Montréal, July 8, 2021 — The Défi STM, presented thanks to a partnership between the Société de Transport de Montréal and the Canada Running Series, ended on a high note after inspiring more than 700 people to run, jog and walk during the month of June.

An exact sum of $22,278 was raised through registration fees and donations collected by participants, surpassing the original goal of $20,000. The generosity of Montrealers will benefit four charitable organizations supported by the STM: Centraide of Greater Montreal, Canadian Red Cross, PartenaireSanté Québec and Réchaud-bus.

The Défi STM was created to encourage citizens to be more active, rediscover their city and use public transit. When participants registered, they agreed to travel 66 kilometres, a distance equal to the total length of the Montréal métro.

Several routes, easily accessible by bus and métro, were also designed to motivate participants in need of a change of scenery.

In total, participants travelled 38,978.96 kilometres, a distance equivalent to 580 times the length of the network.

A challenge that is Sooo Montréal!
The Défi STM is part of the Sooo Montréal summer campaign and one of many initiatives undertaken by the STM to encourage citizens to start taking public transit again during their trips and outings.

More actions are planned this summer to help customers gradually reconnect with their bus and métro networks, especially if they have been away for several months.
