Introducing the Navette Or Bordeaux-Cartierville

Montréal, October 27, 2010
Michel Labrecque, Société de transport de Montréal board chairman, Jocelyn Ann Campbell, STM board member and city councillor for the Saint-Sulpice district of Ahuntsic-Cartierville, and Pierre Gagnier, Ahuntsic-Cartierville borough mayor, today announced the creation of a new bus route aimed at serving seniors living in the Bordeaux-Cartierville district. The new 263 – Navette Or Bordeaux-Cartierville will provide seniors with greater mobility within their neighbourhood starting next November 1.

The roughly 29 km route features 17 stops in each direction, serving eight residences for seniors in that area, as well as local points of interest to them. In addition to the residences, the minibus route will serve Place Vertu shopping centre, the Cartierville Y (YMCA), public library and cultural centre, Sacré-Cœur hospital, Sainte-Odile recreational centre, Galeries Normandie, Saint-Joseph-de-Bordeaux church, L’Acadie recreational centre and Marcelin-Wilson park.

The 263 – Navette Or Bordeaux-Cartierville shuttle bus will operate according to a set timetable on Monday, Wednesday and Friday, featuring four departures in each direction, between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. The route will take about 45 minutes to travel in each direction, from the Manoir Bois-de-Boulogne (east terminus) to Place Vertu (west terminus). Moreover, the bus route number will appear on a gold-coloured background on designated bus stops, making it easier for clients to identify this particular service.

”As part of the service improvement programme, made possible through the financial support of Transports Québec and Ville de Montréal, this new shuttle service was designed to meet the specific needs of seniors in terms of mobility at the local level and promote their participation in everyday neighbourhood activities. Indeed, the bus route will serve the main residences for seniors in the area, as well as public locations of interest to them, such as shopping centres, as well as healthcare, recreational and community-oriented services,” declared Ms. Campbell.

”I am delighted with a new Navette Or service being inaugurated, as it meets the needs expressed by local residents. Indeed, in the last two years, the Bordeaux-Cartierville seniors consultation committee had deemed this project a priority. The borough helped to support this initiative, as it will now give neighbourhood residents access to a minibus that will take them to over a dozen destinations of interest to them,” commented Pierre Gagnier.

”I am very proud to have taken part in the joint efforts by all stakeholders in carrying out this project. The arrival of the Navette Or will no doubt add value to the existing public transit service in our borough’s west end. I also want to thank the STM, on behalf of Bordeaux-Cartieville residents, for having carefully chosen the points of interest that will adequately fulfill the expectations of those who will be using this service,” concluded Harout Chitilian, city councillor for the Bordeaux-Cartierville district of Ahuntsic-Cartierville.

In addition to the Navette Or in Ahuntsic-Cartierville borough, the STM also inaugurated this type of service in Anjou and Côte-Saint-Luc in 2010. The STM has introduced seven other Navette Or shuttles in 2008 and 2009, one per borough in Rosemont–La-Petite-Patrie, Villeray-Saint-Michel-Parc-Extension, Montréal-Nord, Rivière-des-Prairies-Pointe-aux-Trembles, and LaSalle, as well as two such shuttles in Mercier-Hochelaga-Maisonneuve.

To advertize the new 263 – Navette Or Bordeaux-Cartierville bus route, fliers will be distributed in each residence for seniors served by the shuttle. Moreover, community groups and Ahuntsic-Cartierville borough officials will also help promote it. Ads will also be posted in locations visited by seniors and served by the shuttle. For more information, clients call call STM-INFO (786-4636). They can also call A U T O-B-U-S (288-6287) for bus arrival times at their stop. The STM website also provides access to timetables and other transit-related information.
