Last Monday, an extension of the reserved lane on Saint-Laurent Boulevard in the Ahuntsic-Cartierville borough also opened.
The Société de transport de Montréal (STM) and the Boroughs of Ahuntsic-Cartierville and Villeray–Saint-Michel–Parc-Extension are announcing the extension of the reserved lane on Papineau Avenue. The extension will open on September 23.
The reserved lane for buses and taxis will be in effect:
- Southbound between Fleury and Charland from 6:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m.
- Northbound between Louvain and Prieur from 3:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.
The reserved lane for buses, taxis and bikes will be in effect:
- Southbound between Jacques-Casault and Jean-Talon from 6:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m.
- Northbound between Jean-Talon and Jarry from 3:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.
“Papineau is a major Montréal transit corridor, with more than 12,000 trips made every day on the 45 Papineau alone,” said Éric Alan Caldwell, chair of the STM Board of Directors. “The new reserved lane for buses, taxis and bikes will improve traffic flow and bus reliability and help us deliver better service for public transit users in the area.”
“The extension of the reserved lane on Papineau is a big win for public transit in our community,” said Émilie Thuillier, mayor of Ahuntsic-Cartierville. “It offers a compelling, competitive alternative to single-occupant car use. Plus, by seamlessly connecting to the existing reserved lane network, it will provide our residents with fast service to the central neighbourhoods to the south and reduce their travel time to downtown.”
“The extension of the reserved bus lane on Papineau is fantastic news,” said Laurence Lavigne Lalonde, mayor of Villeray–Saint-Michel–Parc-Extension. “It will make it easier for our residents to use public transit. It’s also a timely addition, building on the recent extensions on Saint-Laurent and Jarry, two equally busy routes. Let’s keep the momentum going!”
New section of reserved lane on Saint-Laurent Boulevard
Last Monday, the STM and the Ahuntsic-Cartierville borough also opened a new section of reserved lane on Saint-Laurent Boulevard. This reserved lane for buses and taxis runs southbound only, between Sauvé and Beauharnois streets (except between Port-Royal and De Louvain streets), from 6:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. and from 3:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., Monday to Friday.
A reserved lane running eastbound and westbound on Jarry between Rousselot and De Lorimier will also be added this year.
About Bus priority measures
Bus priority measures (MPB) consist of installations on the road system that ensure priority is given to public transportation, thereby improving the reliability and on-time delivery of service. These measures, including reserved lanes and priority traffic lights, lead to significantly shorter travel times.
