Inclusive Mobility: our public transit training program
You can go the distance
Inclusive Mobility is now metropolitan! The learning program is now available to customers who want to familiarize themselves with the STM, STL, RTL and exo public transit systems.
What is Inclusive Mobility?
The learning program offers practical, concrete tools to help customers with functional limitations familiarize themselves with the operation of bus, metro, train and REM networks. The aim is to promote their safety, autonomy and comfort.
The Mobilité inclusive program is a joint project with the ARTM, and is distributed by the STM in collaboration with its partners Exo, REM, RTL and STL.
The program is free and includes:
- Group training - 2 to 4 theory modules :
- Bus;
- Metro or train;
- Planning;
- REM, safety and good behavior.
- Up to 4 individual training sessions to practice a route with a trainer.
This program is for:
- People with motor or intellectual limitations, autism spectrum disorders or speech and language disorders.
- Customers admitted to Paratransit and those using the bus, metro, train and REM networks.
Partnership
Partnerships are developed with health care institutions, schools, NPOs and companies. To get the training underway, partners must put together a group of 10 to 20 participants.
Will I stop being eligible for paratransit if I take this program?
No. The goal of this program is to offer customers with functional limitations another transit option while maintaining paratransit service for eligible customers.
We estimate that about 12,000 people across the city could participate.
By 2025, we estimate that this program will have enabled more than 2,000 people with functional limitations to travel independently on our regular transit networks (métro, train, bus and REM).
The pilot project was conducted in 2019. Given its success, the STM decided to implement the Inclusive Mobility program city-wide in 2022.
The ARTM is funding the development and updating of the program content. The training of participants will be funded partly by a subsidy from the Ministère des Transports et de la Mobilité durable under its paratransit subsidy program and partly by municipal contributions.

Bus occupancy levels
All STM vehicles are equipped with passenger counters that provide real-time passenger counts for each bus.

Based on this data and the potential number of bus passengers, we can calculate the occupancy level in a given bus and display it as follows:
- Level 1: Bus nearly empty. Distancing possible.
- Level 2: Some seats available. Distancing not possible.
- Level 3: Standing room only. Distancing not possible.
- Level 4: Bus nearly full.
Métro occupancy levels
The estimated métro occupancy level is available for all Azur trains, and therefore for all Orange line stations.
