Bus 747 between the airport and downtown: A digital transit fare to improve traffic flow at the airport

Press release

Starting November 1, 2023, the Autorité régionale de transport métropolitain (ARTM) and the Société de transport de Montréal (STM) will offer an additional option to facilitate the purchase of fares for bus line 747 between Montréal-Trudeau airport and downtown Montréal using the Chrono or Transit mobile apps and a credit card. This temporary measure aims to improve the customer experience during peak periods and the flow of public transit between the airport and downtown.

Available through the Chrono and Transit apps

Customers will be able to use the Chrono or Transit mobile apps and a credit card to purchase one or more digital fares to Montréal-Trudeau airport. Customers must then activate the fare and show it to the driver for visual validation when boarding the 747 within 120 minutes of activating the fare. The driver will issue a valid transit fare that allows access to all modes of transportation within the agglomeration of Montréal (Zone A) for 24 hours.

The ARTM and its partners are committed to modernizing the ticketing system to make daily life easier for users and public transit services more attractive. In addition to the payment solution for line 747 mentioned above, several new features will be made available to users in the coming months, including the ability to purchase fares on an OPUS card using a smartphone starting in the first quarter of 2024.

Several measures to improve the user experience at the airport

Ridership to the airport has increased since the end of the pandemic. To provide high-quality customer service, we have implemented several other measures. These include:

  • Two additional sales kiosks
  • Extended business hours at the STM information counter, which is now open from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. (previously from 11:30 a.m. to 8 p.m.)
  • A dedicated line 747 dispatcher at the bus operations centre to monitor the service and adjust departures
  • Additional daily bus departures based on ridership levels
  • An operations supervisor during peak periods to expedite boarding
  • An additional (fifth) fare vending machine (as of November 1)

In addition, the STM is working on medium- and long-term solutions to improve the reliability and predictability of line 747.
