A new ranking by Corporate Knights magazine puts the STM in sixth place among the world’s most sustainable public corporations.
The Société de transport de Montréal (STM) has earned its place among the top 25 most sustainable public corporations in the world, landing in sixth place in a ranking published by Corporate Knights.
For the magazine’s first global ranking of sustainable public-sector companies, 288 organizations from over 40 countries were analyzed based on a dozen environmental, social and governance indicators. The STM also came in second for sustainability practices among the 49 public-sector transit and transportation organizations in the category.
The STM’s strong showing is due in part to the proportion of investments used to support low emissions activities, as well as the proportion of electricity powered trips made on its bus and métro networks. The STM also stood out for the number of women on both its executive team and board of directors.
“This ranking speaks to all the work we’re doing to build a more people focused, efficient and sustainable STM,” said Marie-Claude Léonard, CEO of the STM. “Our teams are driven to improve the environmental, social and economic impact of our operations, and I’m proud to see they’re so committed!”
Corporate Knights also publishes an annual list of Canada’s 50 best corporate citizens. In 2024, the STM earned the top spot in that ranking.
