Last September 30, STM became the Grand Prize winner of APTA’s AdWheel Award in the Special Event category for its public unveiling of a full-size model of its new métro car, AZUR, in June and July 2012.
Spread over a five-week period, the program of activities for the unveiling included events for STM employees, Montréal stakeholders and public transit users. An official event attended by provincial and municipal government representatives gathered some 500 people from the business community and the media, who witnessed the model car’s spectacular unveiling. An open house day was also arranged for transit employees, retirees and their families so they could examine the car at close range. A guided tour gave them insight into the scope of each step leading to AZUR’s arrival: the multiple consultations among employees and customers, the driving cab simulator used to train métro operators, and the refitting of maintenance workshops. Finally, the model car was skilfully moved to Berri-UQAM station, by way of the métro tunnel, and on public display for nearly four weeks, during which people could walk though it, and appreciate its inside layout and exterior design.
Together, these activities allowed thousands of people to get a preview of AZUR thanks to the on-site availability of experts who were part of this major STM project.
Such recognition from APTA follows a Grand Prix d’excellence from the Association québécoise des transports (AQTr) and a Corporate Leadership Award from CUTA, who both rewarded STM for the unveiling of AZUR.
