Montréal, Sunday, February 18, 2018 – Société de transport de Montréal (STM) has taken note of the decision by its maintenance employees to authorize their union to call a 6-day strike, at the time they choose, in the context of the current negotiations of their collective agreement. It is important to specify that a strike has not been triggered by this mandate.
“The STM is a public organization that offers service 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. It is out of respect for this sustained commitment to our users that, since April 2017 at our request, we have been negotiating to review the internal organization of work in order to obtain the necessary means to delivery service to the public,” said Luc Tremblay, Director General of the STM.
Service maintained until further notice
The STM thus wishes to reassure the clientele, reiterating that until further notice, there are no consequences for service delivery. Similarly, since public transit is a public service for which essential services must be maintained, the STM reminds the public that before service is disrupted by a strike, the union has the obligation to give notice of its intention 7 working days in advance.
