Reduced-fare student OPUS card—the STM encourages online renewals

News

Starting today, students can obtain or renew their reduced-fare OPUS cards for the 2022–2023 school year.

As the new school year approaches, the Société de transport de Montréal (STM) wishes to remind students that they can benefit from reduced public transit fares with a photo OPUS card.

To save time and avoid going to the photo studio, students are encouraged to use the online portal available on their educational institution’s website as the easiest way to obtain or renew their OPUS card.

Online

This year, about 120 educational institutions are giving students the option to obtain their photo OPUS card directly from their school website. They only need to connect to their educational institution’s portal with their username and password, be a full-time student, and have a valid Quebec address. The photo used will be the one on the student’s card on file at the school.

A fee of $15 will need to be paid by credit card. International students will be pleased to hear that international credit cards are now accepted—a new feature this year! The OPUS card will be mailed to the student’s home within seven business days.

While getting the card online is recommended, other options are available.

STM photo studio: by appointment only

Since this morning, the STM photo studio, located at 1755 Berri Street, has been offering extended business hours to accommodate a greater number of people. The studio is open by appointment only. Students who wish to obtain their reduced-fare OPUS card can book an appointment on the platform intended for this purpose.

School tour

The STM photo tour is coming back this year, and about 60 institutions will hold photo sessions in the coming weeks.

Fare reform and designated OPUS cards

Since the implementation of the metropolitan fare reform, those who wish to load All Modes AB, ABC and ABCD fares in the 1-trip, 2-trip and 10-trip formats on an OPUS card must do so on a designated OPUS card. They can also obtain these fares at a regular rate on a L'Occasionnelle non-refillable smart card.

Children ages 6 to 17 and riders age 65 and up who benefit from reduced fares for All Modes AB, ABC and ABCD in the 1-trip, 2-trip and 10-trip formats should note that reduced fares are only available on designated OPUS cards.

Upon the presentation of an existing OPUS card registered in your name, you can obtain a new designated OPUS card free of charge at an STM Espace client or at one of the metropolitan sales and service outlets.
