STM bus network redesign in southwestern Montréal

News

New schedules and routes now available on trip planner and last community outreach activity before new service launch to be held August 17 during Lachine community festival

Montréal, August 12, 2024 – In anticipation of the August 26 launch of the redesigned bus network in southwestern Montréal, the Société de transport de Montréal (STM) is inviting its customers to use the trip planner on its website to view their new routes and see the new schedules that will apply on launch day. Customers can also talk to representatives in person by visiting the STM information booth at the Fêtes de Lachine community festival on August 17, starting at 1 p.m.

Ongoing information campaign and trip planner

A locally targeted information campaign combining digital and social media with signage in the bus and métro networks is currently underway in the five boroughs covered by the redesign: Lachine, LaSalle, Verdun, Sud‑Ouest and southern Ville‑Marie. Customers are invited to explore the new routes, schedules, and travel options that are on their way by entering a trip with August 26 or later as the travel date in the trip planner on the STM website home page.

Bus stop signage is currently being updated on the affected routes. The STM will have representatives on the ground to inform customers about the changes and help them with their travel needs leading up to and on the day of the launch. Temporary signage will also be installed in some 20 métro stations to remind customers of the changes (e.g., different stops, new bus numbers). Once the new service is up and running, the temporary signage will gradually be replaced by permanent signage.

Highlights from the redesign of a vast sector

  • Two new local routes—the 38 De l’Église and the 114 Angrignon—will be introduced to improve neighbourhood accessibility.
  • Twenty bus lines will have new routes, times or frequencies, including three—the 107 Verdun, 112 Airlie and 496 Express Victoria—that will now be high-frequency during rush hour to give local customers better access to high-frequency buses.
  • Seven routes have been retired and will be covered by other buses to streamline the network.

About the bus network redesign

In 2018, the STM began collaboratively redesigning its surface network to be more efficient and appealing, while better accounting for mobility needs and urban development in Montréal. Using five guiding principles, the STM sought input from representatives, experts, the general public, and communities across the city on how it could improve the customer experience by changing the design and architecture of its surface network. Changes are being introduced gradually in conjunction with new major public transit projects, with sector consultations held at various stages. For more information on the bus network redesign.
