Montréal, May 6, 2015 – In order to help visitors get around the city for Montréal Museums Day next May 24, the Société de transport de Montréal (STM) will again be the official transporter, as it has been since the event was first held in 1987, and provide a free shuttle service. Participants can travel free of charge from one museum to the next and rediscover Montréal’s cultural side from an entirely new angle.

With 36 buses, nearly 330 hours of service will be provided on five routes, throughout the day, from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. The central departure point for the various routes will once again be in the Quartier des spectacles, and the gathering point for the shuttle service will be on the Promenade des artistes, between rue Saint-Urbain and rue Jeanne-Mance. For this free shuttle service, on four of the five routes, departures will take place every 20 minutes, while the fifth one will see departures every 35 minutes. Participants who want can board the shuttle bus at any museum along the way.

At the same time, participants can also use STM’s bus and métro network. The 1-day pass (unlimited transit use for 24 hour period) and Unlimited Weekend pass (unlimited transit use from 6 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday) offer interesting options for occasional users.

“Without a doubt, STM’s participation in this popular annual event helps with cultural democracy and with easier access to participating museums and activities held during this very special day. And so we encourage all Montrealers to use public transit to be a part this cultural event, as it makes getting around so much simpler” indicated STM board chairman, Philippe Schnobb.

A few figures
Last year, of the 87,000 people who took part in Montréal Museums Day, 10% used STM’s shuttle service and 66% got around by bus and métro, either to go directly to a museum or to reach the central departure point for the shuttle service.
