Reserved lane on Bélanger Street to open October 28

Press release

Preparatory work for the Blue line extension project continues to move ahead on Jean-Talon Street East.

October 25, 2024 - Preparatory work for the Blue line extension project continues to move ahead on Jean-Talon Street East. That work will see the Blue line project office and the STM open a new reserved lane on Bélanger Street on Monday, October 28. Reserved for buses, taxis and bikes, the lane will make it easier for people to get around in the area during construction of the Blue line.

The 141 and 181 bus lines will be rerouted to Bélanger Street between 19th Avenue and Des Halles eastbound and between Des Halles and 30th Avenue westbound. No buses will run on that section of Jean-Talon East until 2029, which is when the road closures are expected to end. Until then, the reserved lane will be in effect seven days a week from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

With the 141 and 188 buses rerouted to Bélanger and the 95 and 811 buses already running on this street, the reserved lane will be used by more than 26,000 people each day. The lane is an essential mitigation measure designed to keep public transit going strong along the east–west corridor and to keep traffic flowing smoothly and efficiently in the area.

Two new closures on Jean-Talon East
Starting October 28, there will be two new closures on Jean-Talon to prepare for the excavation of two future stations. The road will be fully closed to the west of the intersection with Viau Boulevard and to the east of the intersection with Langelier Boulevard.

Construction work will also be taking place soon along the sides of Lacordaire Boulevard, with partial closures in effect at the intersection of Jean-Talon and Lacordaire. Other worksites will gradually start up over the course of 2025, requiring more full and partial closures on Jean-Talon.

During the closures, Jean-Talon will remain open to local traffic between worksites, and there will be places where vehicles can cross Jean-Talon to go north or south. Access to businesses on Jean-Talon will be maintained at all times, and safe pedestrian walkways will be set up around the sites.
