New bus line to expand public transit in the Jean-Talon East sector

Press release

As part of the progress of the Blue Line Extension Project, the STM is continuing its efforts to mitigate the impact of construction on local mobility. Starting July 7, a new shuttle bus, line 814 Jean-Talon East / Bélanger, will be introduced to improve travel in the area affected by the construction sites. This supplementary service will run in a loop between Viau Street and Langelier Boulevard, from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. every day, with a frequency of approximately 30 minutes.

The Blue line extension is continuing on Jean-Talon Street East as the various projects progress according to the established schedule. As part of their ongoing efforts to improve travel in the construction area, the STM and the project office are announcing that as of July 7, a new bus shuttle will provide additional service to the existing transit service in the sector.

The new 814 Jean-Talon East / Bélanger shuttle will run in a loop on Jean-Talon East and Bélanger Streets, between Viau Street and Langelier Boulevard. Service will be offered from 7:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m., 7 days a week, with departures approximately every 30 minutes.

This new service will facilitate transfers with several existing bus lines, including lines 95, 141, 188 and the 811 Health Facilities Shuttle, which have been moved to the special reserved lane on Bélanger Street for the duration of the construction work. This line will also facilitate north-south transfers on lines 136, 32, 432 and 33.

The 814 Jean-Talon East / Bélanger shuttle will be set up by the BLE project and aims to facilitate travel during the disruptions caused by ongoing construction work. This new service will help provide local bus service in this area of Montréal during the construction period.

The launch of this bus line demonstrates our commitment to adapt as necessary to facilitate travel in the area affected by the BLE construction work, particularly along the Jean-Talon commercial artery. This new local service, developed in collaboration with the borough of Saint-Léonard, directly addresses mobility needs in a sector undergoing a major transformation,” said Eric Alan Caldwell, Chair of the STM Board of Directors.

The borough takes to heart the concerns of citizens and partners who are living with the changes inherent in the Blue line project construction. With this shuttle, the STM demonstrates a true understanding of this reality. We are confident that this solution is a suitable response to the issues raised and that the public and merchants will now be better served,” said Michel Bissonnet, Mayor of the Borough of Saint-Léonard.

About the Blue Line Project Office

The Blue line project is a key development project in the east end of the Island of Montréal.  The six-kilometre métro extension will add five new stations east of Saint-Michel station, bringing the Blue line into Anjou. The project is a collaboration between five partner organizations: the Ministère des Transports et de la Mobilité durable, the Autorité régionale du transport métropolitain, the City of Montréal, the Société québécoise des infrastructures, and the Société de transport de Montréal.
