My Alerts To minimize the impact of construction activities on customers and ensure the efficient management of public funds, the STM and the Bureau de Projet ligne bleue (PLB) are combining two major initiatives at Fabre Station. This project includes the construction of a power station for the Blue Line extension, as well as the rehabilitation of the station’s main entrance. As a result, the main entrance building will be closed beginning September 8, 2026.
On August 12, the Société de transport de Montréal (STM) and the Bureau de Projet ligne bleue (PLB) launched major construction work at Fabre Station. This project is a coordinated initiative designed to optimize efficiency by combining the construction of a power station associated with the Blue Line extension and the rehabilitation of Fabre Station’s main entrance building.
In this context, the STM wishes to inform its customers that the station’s main entrance will be closed starting Tuesday, September 8, 2026, for a period of approximately 18 months. Fabre Station will remain open and accessible via the secondary entrance, located at the intersection of Jean-Talon Street and Fabre Street, just a few metres from the main entrance. Certain bus stops will be relocated to accommodate construction-related constraints.
Committed to minimizing construction-related disruptions and ensuring the responsible management of public funds, the STM and the PLB have chosen to coordinate these activities as a single project. Although the two projects are funded separately, combining the works will help reduce overall costs associated with mobilizing personnel and equipment, streamline coordination efforts, and lessen impacts on customers.
Details of the Planned Work
These works will enable the construction of a new traction power substation to enhance the electrical supply required for the Blue Line extension. At the same time, rehabilitation work will be carried out on the structural slab and fixed stairways of the station’s main entrance building. These interventions will help restore and modernize certain aging components of Fabre Station’s infrastructure.
About the Blue Line Extension Project Office
The Blue Line Extension Project is a major initiative supporting the development of Montréal’s East End. Spanning 6 km, the extension will add five new metro stations east of Saint-Michel Station to the borough of Anjou, as well as three (3) traction power substations on the existing network. The project is being carried out through the collaboration of five responsible organizations: the Ministère des Transports et de la Mobilité durable, the Autorité régionale de transport métropolitain, the City of Montréal, the Société québécoise des infrastructures, and the Société de transport de Montréal.
About the Station Rehabilitation Work
This work is being carried out with the financial support of the Government of Quebec through the Government Assistance Program for Public Transit (Programme d’aide gouvernementale au transport collectif des personnes, PAGTCP) and the Government Assistance Program for Public Transit Infrastructure (Programme d’aide gouvernementale aux infrastructures de transport collectif, PAGITC), funded jointly by the Government of Quebec and the Government of Canada under the Integrated Bilateral Agreement.
