Independant public consultation - Bellechasse mechanical ventilation station

Public consultation

Public consultation process suspended

Steps have been taken to evaluate the possibility of relocating the project to another site. The public consultation process has been suspended until further notice.

This project will involve building and installing a new mechanical ventilation station (MVS) to ensure proper air flow in the métro network.

Before presenting the project to the City of Montréal and requesting a by-law change, the STM hired an independent commission to lead a public consultation, so that community members would have the chance to express their opinions on this new project. The commission will collect the community’s comments and suggestions to prepare its report.

Public consultation process suspended

Steps have been taken to evaluate the possibility of relocating the project to another site. The public consultation process has been suspended until further notice.

The commission's report will be made public at a later stage.

The next steps will be communicated as soon as possible to those who took part in the public consultation, and published on this page.

To carry out the Bellechasse MVS replacement project, STM must obtain a by-law from the City of Montréal’s Agglomeration Council to ensure that the project is compliant.

To obtain this by-law, the STM must first hold a public consultation in accordance with its corporate policy entitled Politique de consultation publique – réseau du métro (PC 1.14) (French only).

Once the consultation process has been completed, the independent commission will submit its report.

  1. The STM Board of Directors initiates the consultation process by creating a commission.
  2. The members of the commission — a chair and two commissioners from outside the STM — are chosen by the Board of Directors.
  3. People are invited to take part in the public consultation through various means of communication, such as newspapers, mail‑outs, the website, and posters at the planned worksite.
  4. Citizens are invited to express their opinions in 3 ways:
    1. By attending the information session, which includes a project presentation and question period;
    2. By attending the input session;
    3. By submitting their written, oral or a video input.
  5. The commissioners then submit a report to the STM with their recommendations.

The commission's work ends once the report is submitted. The STM publishes its action plan and the Commission's report on its website, once these documents have been submitted to its Board of Directors.
